'Mind', Oil on canvas, 122 x 168cms
This painting expresses an experience of meditation, allowing my mind to soften and open.

As an artist, I love to explore essential and sensual qualities of being, with drawing and colour.

I work from my studio in Lewes, and I exhibit, sell and teach workshops locally.

I have a passionate interest in exploring the sensual forms of the body in movement and stillness, with a particular curiosity in exploring the nature of love, beauty, relationships and intimacy, with an underlying narrative of The Feminine. I am inspired and moved by artists such as Henry Moore, Mark Rothko, Auguste Rodin, Frank Auerbach and more recently Magdalena Abakanowicz and Constantin Brancusi, following a tradition of deep investigation into the human condition with the practice of drawing and painting.

My artistic practice delights in exploring both solidity and more ethereal qualities of being, somehow carving into the two dimensional plane, evoking an emotional engagement and connection for the viewer, as I reach for some essential qualities of my subject.

My interests and work in Oriental philosophy, spiritual practices, work as an acupuncturist and yoga instructor, influence my approach to my creativity, which can loosely be called 'figuratively abstract'.

'The touch of my pencil across a page,

charcoal in the grain of the paper, and in

the creases and crevices of my finger-tips;

the magical experience of a form,

often the landscape of the body,

space, light and dark emerging,

together with the textures, aromas, and colours of oil paints,

exploring movement and mood across a page and canvas,

all inform and inspire my essential relationship of being in the world'.
